
Books for Babies Program >>
Volunteer in hospitals to visit new parents, deliver book packets, and discuss reading, literacy, and the importance of the use of language and sounds from birth. Training is provided. Volunteers must be accepted and trained by Volunteer Services at the hospitals and then be trained by the Read to Grow hospital coordinator.
Books for Kids Program >>
Volunteers are vital to the Books for Kids program and help us in many ways:
pick up and deliver books collected by various organizations, schools and businesses;
assist with book drives (contact schools, corporations, and other organizations); and
sort, label and box books for delivery.
Office
Produce "thank you" notes for signature;
Assist with mailings;
Perform data entry for mailing lists, donations received, etc;
Inventory maintenance of books, posters, bookmarks, etc; and
Maintain files concerning public relations and media coverage; “scrapbook” of same; and any ads, notices, etc. from local papers.
Pediatric Waiting Room Program
Read to children in pediatric waiting rooms at the Hospital of Saint Raphael and the Fair Haven Community Health Center.
Events
Produce press releases and work with media to obtain publicity for events, book drives, book giveaways and special events; and
Assist with preparation and work at events.
