New Haven Reads Book Bank >>

The Book Bank serves as a central point for the collection and distribution of new and gently  used books. Books are distributed to various locations, such as schools, community centers, and churches. Members of the general public are also invited to stop by the Book Bank for free books. A wide range of subjects are available, covering fiction and non-fiction.

This program promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading aloud to children at the pediatric exam room at the following hospitals:

Whale's Tales Book Bank

This program teaches reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to adults in a child and family development context. Themes include expressing needs and feelings, sharing and cooperating, and understanding family values. Each lesson is based on a multicultural children’s book and also contains related adult poems and short narratives.

Whale’s Tales Book Bank for Kids

Books donated to this Book Bank are distributed to needy children in the greater New London area through various social service agencies, and is located at:
