United Way Invests in Read to Grow
2/12/2010
Read to Grow and the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County have come together in a Books for Kids Early Literacy Initiative to ensure that the home environments of children in the United Way's 12-town region are literacy-rich, containing age-appropriate books. This project is part of the UWCFC's Early Literacy Initiative, whose goal is to have all children reading at grade level by grade three.
Myra Healy has been hired as project coordinator and will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the initiative. She will coordinate regional book drives, develop community collaborations and build awareness of literacy resources serving Bridgeport, Darien, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport, Weston and Wilton.
Myra has more than 20 years experience as an educator serving as the Director of Early Childhood Centers in Westport, New Haven and Norwalk, and has conducted early literacy workshops at state and regional levels.
