Yalesville Cares About Reading
3/10/2009
By reading at home, Yalesville Elementary School students helped give the gift of literacy to others. Yalesville Elementary School recently concluded a month-long annual school-wide reading incentive program, Care to Read, Read to Grow. Instead of reading for rewards or prizes, students read to have a book donated to Read to Grow in their honor. The program was designed not only to motivate students to read but also to provide a chance to learn first-hand about caring for others. This year’s program brought out the kindness in the Yalesville students, and in the community. Yalesville’s PTO provided funds to purchase some of the books, and staff, students, and Cheshire Public Library also donated books. The school used money collected from a kickoff pajama day to buy more books. In all the school donated more than 1,200 books, as well as $300.
