Steve Foldy stood knee-deep in boxes, bins and bags of 6,000 books he and his fellow Kiwanis Club of Fairfield members collected during their recent town-wide book drive for Read to Grow, a statewide organization that works to build early literacy. The Kiwanis Club has run a book drive for Read to Grow three consecutive years, and has collected more than 20,000 new and gently used books for the nonprofit. |

Come to RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison on Friday, June 26 and drop off your gently used children’s books to benefit Read to Grow's program and children across the state. |

Read to Grow has received a $15,000 grant from The Citizens Bank Foundation for the Books for Babies program at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. Citizens Bank has been supporting Books for Babies at L&M since 2001 when the program began at the hospital.

The young members of Brownie Troop 66232 stand barely head and shoulders above the 2,123 boxed books they collected for Read to Grow. Based in Kensington, the troop decided to make Read to Grow their beneficiary as they earned their Girl Scout Take Action award. |

Read to Grow has assumed the regional coordination for the First Book grants for the Greater Hartford community. Grants are available to nonprofit organizations or Title I schools that provide some type of literacy service to low-income households and offer multiple book distributions to each child in the program. |

Author Toni Morrison, winner of both Nobel and Pulitzer prizes, was the featured speaker at Read to Grow's sold-out fall fundraising luncheon at the Omni Hotel at Yale in New Haven. The author spoke about the importance of sharing stories with children in developing early literacy, and presented her new book, A Mercy.

Read to Grow was recently inducted into the Community Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Community Advisory Boards of Channel Thirteen/WNET New York and WLIW21. Read to Grow was one of 11 recipients and the only Connecticut awardee.

Sharon Davis has lived in Branford for only a few years, but she and her daughters have done much to make their mark on the community. Sharon is the newest board member of Read to Grow (RTG) and is inspired every day by the group’s message of literacy and hope for Connecticut children.
