Start a RTG Club in Your School
Be a part of Read to Grow by starting a Read to Grow Club. It's a great way to involve your school community in helping to make sure all Connecticut children grow up with books of their own and the opportunity to learn to love reading.
In 2006, Alexandra Bailin and classmates Hilary Hoffman ’09 and Emily Weyler ’09 founded a Read to Grow Club at Hopkins School in New Haven. The Club's purpose was to collect books and raise funds for the organization, and to educate the Hopkins community about the issue of literacy in Connecticut. Since its inception, the Hopkins Read to Grow Club has hosted many successful book drives and fundraisers, resulting in donations of thousands of books and dollars to support our organization's programs and children's literacy development.
This year, presidents Mary Reidy and Juliet Bailin, sister of the club's founder, led their group in a Libros Para Ninos (Books for Kids)campaign, in which they raised $500 to purchase 300 books in Spanish for Read to Grow. (See our Story of the Month section to read more.)
Based on her experience in establishing the first successful Read to Grow Club, Alexandra Bailin wrote and published a guide for other students who are interested in organizing a similar club at their own schools. The guide is available at no cost from Read to Grow
